Yes. The Free plan costs nothing, has no time limit and needs no account. It covers everyday sheets: formulas, formatting, sorting and filtering, templates, printing, and Excel and CSV files. Pro and Max are optional paid plans with more functions and tools.

Yes. After you open Sheets once, it works without internet, including your saved workbooks. The first time you open or save an Excel file, Sheets downloads its Excel support, so do that once while you're online. Installing Sheets as an app makes it open like any other app.

In your own browser, on your own device, saved automatically as you type. If you sign in, they're also saved to your account's cloud (on our server at Cloudflare), so they show on your other devices and are safe if this browser's data is cleared. To keep a private file out of the cloud, choose “Keep on this device only” for it. Not signed in, your workbooks live only in this browser, so clearing its site data deletes them: use Export .xlsx to keep a backup.

Yes. Sheets opens .xlsx, .xls, .csv, .tsv and .ods files, from your computer, by drag and drop, or from a link (including Google Sheets links shared with "Anyone with the link"). It saves as .xlsx or .csv. Values, formulas, formatting, merged cells, frozen panes and page settings come across. Macros (VBA) are not supported.

Yes. Sheets works in Chrome on Android and Safari on iPhone and iPad, with a layout made for small screens. You can add it to your home screen so it opens like an app.

No. Without signing in, Sheets works fully in your browser. Sign in with Google to save your workbooks to the cloud and open them on your other devices (every plan includes cloud space; Pro and Max include much more), and to use Pro or Max.

Open Sheets, choose Plans, and pick a plan. Paid plans are opening soon: until then the Upgrade buttons say so, and you can keep using Free. Once you upgrade, the new features unlock straight away, without leaving your workbook.

Yes. Cancel whenever you like and your plan won't renew. You keep Pro or Max until the end of the period you've paid for, then Sheets goes back to Free. Nothing in your workbooks is deleted or locked. See the Refund & Cancellation Policy.

Not signed in, your workbooks never leave your device. Signed in, they're stored in your account's cloud so they sync, and only your account can open them: we never read, analyse or share them.
